-This "light trail" is the trail of light emitted by Genji fireflies. I used 4x5 inch color reversal film as the photosensitive material and captured it using the photogram technique. It's been exactly 20 years since I last photographed fireflies, since the "Light Emission" series in 2004.
The location for this shoot was the famous "Hakojima Spring" in Higashiagatsuma Town, Gunma Prefecture. Thanks to the abundant and high-quality spring water, many fireflies live in the downstream area. And every year, when the season comes, you can see a fantastic sight of them all lighting up and flying around at once. To take the photos, I set up a small tent near the spring to make a simple darkroom, and at night I invited the fireflies flying around the surrounding waterside into it, and while listening to the sound of the water and smelling the smell of the water, I photographed their light.
(Nishimura Yoichiro) *This photo was taken with the cooperation of photographer Hitomi Masaru, who lives in Nakanojo Town, Gunma Prefecture, and with permission from the Hakojima Firefly Village Conservation Society.

The "Light Trails" series is a photogram of firefly light using color photographic paper. It's been exactly 20 years since I last photographed fireflies, since the "Light Emitting" series in 2004.
The location for this shoot was Hakosima Spring, a famous spring in Higashiagatsuma Town, Gunma Prefecture. Hakosima Spring has long been known for its abundant water volume and good spring quality, and the entire downstream area is a habitat for Genji and Heike fireflies. Every year, when the season comes, you can see a fantastic sight of them dancing and lighting up all at once.
I visited here to take photos for about four days during the rainy season last year, and the fireflies welcomed me every night in the drizzling rain. I was in a small tent pitched near the spring, and I captured their light one by one on photographic paper.
I received cooperation from artist Hitomi Masaru, who lives in Nakanojo Town, and Uehara Shinobu, chairman of the Hakosima Firefly Protection Society, in taking the photos. Thank you very much.

This exhibition will take you into the world of Yoichiro Nishimura.
Everything has a beginning. This is where Mr. Nishimura got his start.Youth, impulse, moment, and immaturity. Therefore, he has a pure and naked view of the world. Everything is photographed with vivid freshness. A special time will pass in Gallery Cafe 3. A flash-like exhibition.I would like you to take a look.

Gallery art cocoon Mirai, which opened in Chikuma City, Nagano Prefecture in March 2023, will hold its 4th exhibition from July 8th (Sat) to July 30th (Sun), 2023. will be held.
In this exhibition, about 30 works of flowers and seashells (produced in 2016-2023) will be exhibited. Scangram is a photography technique that uses a scanner instead of a camera. It was originally developed by Nishimura, inspired by the classic darkroom technique "photogram", which captures the shadows and shapes of the subject without using a camera. It is a shooting technique that I made. With this technique, the colors are reversed to complementary colors, creating a blue magnetic appearance.
In the season when the sunlight of early summer is dazzling, please enjoy freely layering your various fantasies on the fascinating images that capture unknown flowers floating in the pitch-black outer space.

A photogram is an image obtained by placing an object directly on photographic paper and exposing it to light.
Utilizing primitive photographic techniques, Yoichiro Nishimura has created works of unseen beauty.
In the solo exhibition "Shining Dream", I will show the latest work of the vase series created in 2005.
Approaching, moving away, they reflect each other and emit brilliance.
It seems that it is a Scandinavian glassware that has memories for the writer. A shining dream heralds the beginning of a new year.

Omokage
September 20 (Tue)-October 2 (Sun), 2022
12:00 - 19:00 (closed on Mondays, until 16:00 on the last day)
(Omitted) This work starts from a film shot at the same time as the work "There is a shadow to see" that was exhibited at this gallery in 2015. Among them, the same cut as the one announced at that time is also included. In this exhibition, the painting recipe has been changed, the chemicals used to control development and color tone have been changed, and even the unevenness of chemicals during multiple composition and development has been accepted as a style of painting. I think it would be more appropriate to call it a project aiming at a completely new work with a different goal than the previous work, rather than reviving the old work by changing the arrangement. The title "Omokage" is because it retains the impression of the original somewhere, and also it is the screen composition that has the essence of several legendary photographers who are the roots of Yoichiro Nishimura's expression too. All are one-of-a-kind, unique prints that cannot be reprinted. About 30 items will be exhibited and sold. (Gallery Director Toshiyuki Shinohara)

Flower photograms
In this exhibition "Flower Photogram", monochrome photogram works with tulip flowers as a motif will be exhibited. It is a series of "withered tulips" and "tulips in a vase". Both are new this year. For the "withered tulip", we used a very old photographic paper that has fog over time. It would be great if the nobleness of the raw flowers in the dead flowers could be projected even a little. Also, the one-flowered vase with flowers inserted in "Tulip in a vase" is a vase used by my mother-in-law who loved my work during my lifetime. The combination of the elegant form and the lovely tulips made me feel the sign of my mother-in-law who was wise and always cheerful. I would like to express my gratitude to my mother, who turns 88 this year, and her kind mother-in-law.

Bottom of the water
The "Minazoko" series are photograms(* 1) of Sawagani(Freshwater Crab)that lives in the upper reaches of the Morito River in Hayama. The motif is Kenji Miyazawa's fairy tale "Yamanashi". It is a scene of a certain winter day of parent and child (* 2) crabs playing at the bottom of the cold and beautiful valley river. The round, white balloon-like thing is the fruit of Yamanashi (* 3), and the patterns of various shapes that spread around it are the impact when the fruit falls on the surface of the water, and ripples caused by the movement of crabs.Gelatin silver print 11 x 14 ich, 9 pieces on display. All are original ones.
* 1 A photograph in which the shape of an object is directly printed on photographic paper without using a camera. The photo of the photogram is "light", and the gram is "draw".
* 2 I don't know if one big crab and two small crabs are really parent and child, but I think so because they were in the same place.
* 3 An original species of Japanese pear that grows naturally in the mountains and is currently eaten as an edible product. It was small and hard, but it tasted like a pear.

I am participating in a special exhibition commemorating the publication of Daido Moriyama's photo book "Letter to N". "Letter to N" contains most of the works exhibited at the Daido Moriyama exhibition "Zushi vol.2" held at the zushi art gallery in May.
I am exhibiting both Takuma Nakahira's "For the Coming Words" and Daido Moriyama's "Light and Shadow" photobooks, as well as homage works.

「Glowing dreams」
We will exhibit about 15 photograms of glass vases.
This exhibition will show you the world of Yoichiro Nishimura. Mr. Nishimura has been using photography without using a camera. Mr. Nishimura, who wants to convey the fun and beauty of the form drawn by light, expresses it by taking in chance. The light itself moves like a living creature, and it has established a moment like a dream sight. I would like you to take a look. (Higashimura Norito/Gallery Cafe 3)

「Luminous Spheres」
We will exhibit about 20 photograms of soap bubbles.
Photogram is a primitive photographic technique to capture images by simply placing an object directly on top of printing paper and throwing light over it.
Yoichiro Nishimura freely and willingly uses this method to create unseen beauty.
He keeps his eyes on delicate things such as flowers, fallen leaves, insects and butterflies, the shadow of water and so on. In this [Luminus Spheres], you will see the recomposition of his photogram works of ephemeral soap bubbles that were first presented 20 years ago.
